Developed by Telsing Andrews, this line originated from a cross between:

- Oerprei, a traditional Dutch perennial leek (Allium ampeloprasum var. holmense)

- A biennial leek (var. porrum) with purple leaves, the result of breeding work by the Long Island Seed Project aimed at making it perennial. This latter variety is likely itself descended from the traditional French cultivar, St. Victor.

After selection by Telsing Andrews, this original line passed into the hands of Permaseminka in the Czech Republic, who selected it again.

The population was very heterogeneous; the plants were similar in size to biennial leeks, with predominantly green leaves and some purple ones.

The plants were almost all perennial, most often with two cloves, sometimes more.

These seeds come from a selection of plants that have exhibited a perennial life cycle and foliage tinged with purple, in open pollination with the rest of the original population.
